By the end of the 3 days with us you will experienced some of the wilder and quieter parts of Snowdonia and will have a great set of skills in your mountaineering tool box that will stay with you forever and help you to explore the hills and mountains of the world in a self sufficient and safe way.
You will receive first class coaching and instruction from qualified mountaineers who have great teaching skills is provided during the course but you will need your own accommodation and packed lunches/drinks during the 3 days.
All of our instructors have a very broad range of experiences and most have been to the Greater Ranges and Europe so they will be able to answer questions and give you advice on some very specific topics if needed, But most of all you can draw on their knowledge and experience to help you to become a better all round hill or mountain walker.
All days are mountain days and as such we will be traveling in to some of the more remote parts to get away from the crowds.
Over the 3 days we will cover a wide range of skills and related topics. One of the main elements will be mountain navigation and route choice. This will primarily be using map and compass but we will also look at GPS and altimeter use as navigational aids.
Other topics covered are a basic appraisal of the mountain weather forecast as well as how to interpret what they actually mean including synoptic weather charts, cloud types and what they mean plus a good level of awareness of how the weather can change during your mountain day. We will also look at choice of mountain area or hill ranges and hill walking equipment including the pro’s and con’s of the various clothing and footwear available today. The choices and types of food available when wild camping will also be looked at, including the fine balance of proteins and carbohydrates in your hill food diet.
As always these courses are tailored to your personal needs, In the past we have tailored these courses for people traveling to higher altitudes on trekking peaks around the world so that they would have an appraisal of the fitness level and also to learn how to travel a little safer at altitude. We have even taught people how to use walking poles correctly, this is something the vast majority of walkers don’t know!
