What is Gorge Scrambling?

Gorge Scrambling is a superb fun filled adventure activity that involves walking, scrambling and some short swims in a mountain gorge.
There are water slides, squeezes and jumps that you can tackle along the way, this is a great activity that is suitable for all.

Have a look at a recent gorge scramble movie clip on our Facebook page.

We use a gorge scramble called the Afon Ddu which is just outside Betws y Coed. The session takes up the best part of a day with a minimum group size of 4 needed and a maximum of 20.

Meeting in Betws Y Coed at 08.30 you will follow our instructors to the gorge where we get changed and spend a few minutes having a brief about safety before heading in to the gorge for the rest of the morning. The gorge scramble usually lasts around 3 hrs maximum with a full group of 15 and around 2 1/2hrs as an average time for smaller groups.

Minimum age is 14yrs old accompanied by parent or legal guardian.

What kit will I need?

We provide wetsuits, buoyancy aids, and water sports helmets plus group safety kit and highly experienced instructors who know the venues like the back of their hands.

You will need:

Swim wear for under our wetsuit

Long sleeved synthetic base layer or rash vest for under our wetsuit

Thick socks

Pair of trainers or boots with laces – no wetsuit boots or aqua shoes as they are not supportive enough and also not always very grippy!

Pair of board shorts to wear over our wetsuits

Big Towel!

Waterproof camera?

Suncream?

Sense of adventure and fun is essential
