We stress the meaning ' emergency use' as this is what rope skills are for, to teach you what to do when faced with a situation where you need to be able to provide a secure method of either, helping somebody up or down steep ground using a rope, sling and carrabiner.

The course is not about using a rope in a true climbing situation, but in a situation where steep ground and/or scrambling may be involved.

Course Content

• We will look at the best type sizes and length of rope

• Rope managment

• Using the correct knots

• How to choose the right type of belay and how to belay

• Choice of safe natural anchors

• Types of belaying when using natural anchors

• The limitations and use of a rope on its own to protect descent and ascent of an individual or a whole party

We will provide all ropes and other equipment for the day. All you need to bring is a packed lunch and drink plus your normal hill walking kit.
