Mountain Leader Training

Mountain Leader Assessment

Before booking or attending a course you Must:

Join the BMC and Register with one of the National Governing Bodies.

 

Arthog outdoor centre is well located in Southern Snowdonia with easy access to The Arans, Cader Idris and The Rhinogs and one hour from Snowdon. Arthog and Snowdonia Adventures are well equiped, experienced and qualified to provide all the professional qualification based courses you require for your caerer and ongoing professional development in the outdoor industry.

Before booking a place on any of these courses, we recommend that you contact your National Governing Body to establish the current guidelines for each qualification course.

 

Food and Accommodation  - All meals are provided including packed lunches and special diets are als catered for. Arthog accommodation has been refurbished and consists of bunk bed and some single beded rooms.

Travel  Full travel details are provided with your joining instructions. 

The Cambrian coast train line is 1 mile away from the centre and Blaenau Ffestiniog Branch line whch is just off the London to Holyhead main line is a short shuttle bus ride away.

Fitness  By their nature mountainering activities, can sometimes be hard work.  We advise you to prepare well in advance with regular climbing and walking related training down the wall or gym.

Experience  Clients should have good fitness levels and have met the course requirements prior to both training and especially important for an assessment courses.

Equipment  All climbing safety equipment is provided by us, for training courses, assessment courses differ please read the course joining notes for each course.  You are expected to provide personal clothing, a rucsac and boots (hire available).

STAFF All staff on these courses are sutibly qualified and experienced in delivering the range of courses on offer.

Mountain Leader Award (MLA) or Walking Group Leader (WGL)?
MLA involves wild camping, movement on steep ground and some rope work whereas WGL does not involve steep or rocky terrain and includes valley camps and the overnight experience. WGL assessment candidates have to navigate with the same accuracy as on ML, but over ‘moorland’ terrain. WGL terrain is well defined by obvious boundaries, such as roads and coastlines and any hazards within it are identifiable and avoidable.

 

You must be a member of the BMC and register with your national association before joining any course.
